FUNDERS FOR LGBTQ ISSUES RELEASES REPORT ON GRANTMAKING AT THE INTERSECTION OF RACIAL EQUITY AND LGBTQ JUSTICE

Publisher: Funders for LGBTQ Issues

New York – August 23, 2011 Funders for LGBTQ Issues has published a report on grantmaking at the intersection of race and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) issues: Towards a More Responsive Philanthropy: Grantmaking for Racial Equity and LGBTQ Justice.

In 2007, Funders for LGBTQ Issues launched a multi-year Racial Equity Campaign aimed at forging a conversation among funders about the intersection of racial equity and LGBTQ justice, and to increase grantmaking to and strengthen LGBTQ people of color (POC) organizations.

The report highlights the stories of five foundations engaged in efforts to support POC LGBTQ communities and organizations. Experiences and insights are shared from institutional staff and board members, as well as volunteers and grantees. Their work provides examples for other institutions in the sector.

“This report highlights valuable work being done in philanthropy at the intersection of race and LGBTQ issues,” said Richard Burns, Interim Executive Director of Funders for LGBTQ Issues. “The stories of these foundations are examples of the results that can be achieved as we build a broader movement.”
